New! The new release of Aviva for Java™ v4.1 takes advantage of many new Java capabilities to providepowerful and flexible printing and APL font support. Other new features include the capability to run as a desktop application, and proxy server support for safe firewall traversal.
Aviva for Java™ version 4.1 now includes the following new features:
System Printing - Aviva for Java™ now takes full advantage of Java Print Services available in the Java Runtime Environment version 1.4 or higher. These services provide access to named system printers displayed in the Print dialog by most applications. With Aviva for Java™ version 4.1 the requirement to specify 'printer ports' in earlier versions of Aviva for Java™, has been removed. Maintaining Printer Definition Files is no longer necessary for 3270-printers environment.
Quick Print - Print directly from toolbar using user defined default printer settings.
APL Character Set - Support for 3270 displays that support APL code page when requested by the host.
Macro Control in Page Automation - Enhanced Page Automation API that can now start and stop macros.
- When installed in stand-alone mode, Aviva for Java™ version 4.1 can now run as a desktop application started from a shortcut without the requirement to start a web browser session. The desktop application mode is also available to the administrator of a server installation.
Proxy Support - Aviva for Java™ version 4.1 sessions can now communicate with the host via a SOCKS Version 4 proxy server. The SOCKS protocol provides a framework for client-server applications to transparently and securely traverse a network firewall.
"By taking advantage of the latest improvements of the SUN Java Runtime environment, Aviva for Java™ continues to provide customers with a comprehensive, secure Java based terminal emulation solution that extends host based applications to desktop web browsers." said Willy Stieger, Director of Sales and Operations for Aviva Solutions. "Given the emphasis on extending enterprise-computing environments to internal and external users, it is important to offer robust and user friendly solutions that support the inclusion of host based applications as part of the extended enterprise objective."
